For the past few weeks we, the staff, at Harrington House have been able to enjoy our own holidays as well. Like for most of our lovely guests, abroad.
Isn't it nice to wait for your time off? I don't know about you but for me, I sometimes count every moment to the big take off, I can go as far as minutes! It is mad but what can one do? Lately though I've learned not to drive myself completely crazy as I could easily end up finding myself in a moment when my beautiful holiday is over and I've missed it since kept waiting for things yet to come and never enjoyed the moment! That would be horrible!
My holiday was amazing, as always. Filled with lovely moments with friends, a few concerts loaded with gorgeous music, good food, tasty beer, dance, laugh, pure enjoyment of life! Inspiring... Really inspiring as you always learn so much about yourself through the events and people in your life, specially when out of your normal routine.
You know how you nearly always wish you could stay in your destination forever, how your holiday could last a few days more, you never want to leave? I realised a few years ago I've lost that feeling. I don't wish I could stay there forever, I don't need my holiday to last a few days more, only sometimes I wished I could stay there forever... I was a bit worried, does this mean I don't really enjoy travelling anymore or the destinations don't WOW me the way I think they do? Luckily soon enough I got it - it is the fact I DO enjoy the trips, the people, the places, hotels, food, drinks... I enjoy all of this and am able to breath it in in a way that makes me feel thoroughly fulfilled and ready to go back home! Isn't it wonderful? To go home happy! To return to your everyday life with great memories which make the switchover so much easier.
Today I was walking through Dublin city center for the first time after my holiday. The weather was the very usual, cloudy with some sunshine every now and then, surprisingly no rain during the whole day, breezy, sometimes a bit chilly but warm... People on Grafton street divided into two main groups, the performers and the tourists taking photos of them, some locals doing their shopping...Theres a new SALE in town, I found myself thinking - two weeks ago it was mid season sale, or was it summer sale, or perhaps simply all stock must go sale...I think now it' s the 70% sale...There's always a sale in Dublin, always. And everyone is always shopping. Or performing to the shopping lunatics (me included).
There's always this amazing buzz in Dublin, some say it's annoying, makes them nervous, irritated. To me, I find something romantic in it. I try to see the lovely things on the streets, I also don't want to block the unpleasant ones completely out but simply wish to avoid them once in a while.
So, after getting cosy in my hometown again I found myself walking back home and smiling, not just a smirk, no. It looked like someone just told you the best news in the world, you're so happy but need to keep it down a bit...I found people noticing it and smiling back at me, someone said hello, someone winked their eye, someone just walked ahead with a strange look on their face. And suddenly I remembered everything, all the things I love about this city, all the things that make the thought of leaving it so hard, all the things that make coming back feel always as warm as your mothers hug.
I love Dublin.
I wish you all the very best time while you're travelling and the warmest feelings in your heart on your return to home!
